What are MoTeC's EV offerings and activities?

Does MoTeC have an EV Plug and Play Solution?

At this stage MoTeC does not have a plug and play solution for any electric vehicle. EV control/integration solutions are unique for each project and mainly depend on the selected subsystems and HV electrical design. Our M1 VCUs are extremely flexible and allow customers to create their own EV control and integration solution. MoTeC also provides engineering services to create customised solutions for customers.

Can the M1 VCU control various Inverters/Chargers/DC-DC converters?

As long as the CAN interface information of each unit is available, the M1 VCU can be programmed to control any EV related subsystems. MoTeC has experience with a large range of different products and can provide support where necessary.

Can you recommend a motor/motor inverter for my vehicle?

Subsystem recommendations can be very complicated as there are a large number of factors that dictate the selection of appropriate components. These include the battery voltage, battery capacity, vehicle performance requirements and so on. MoTeC provides engineering consultancy services to help with the selection of components for your project.

I have a MoTeC M1 ECU, can I use it for an EV project or do I need an M1 VCU?

“VCU” stands for Vehicle Control Unit and is a common term in EV applications. The actual hardware between our ECUs and VCUs is the same. You can acquire an appropriate Licence for your ECU and use it for EV development.

Do you support any OE drive units? For example, the Tesla drivetrain.

The M1 VCU can be programmed to control any CAN device as long as the CAN interface information is available. Tesla, like any OE manufacturer, uses proprietary CAN streams which they do not make publicly available. Although some customers have used M1 VCUs along with third party controllers to drive Tesla units, MoTeC has no experience with these 3rd party solutions and therefore can’t recommend any devices.

Do you offer custom software development services?

Yes, MoTeC provides comprehensive EV/HEV Engineering Services, tailored to each client’s needs. Our team of EV experts takes a goal-oriented approach and works collaboratively to design and develop EV control solutions that speed up and simplify the testing and validation process for the clients.

What software programming language does M1 hardware support?

M1 units can be programmed through M1 Build, which is a MoTeC proprietary software. You can perform hand coding in M1 Build to develop a custom firmware for M1 VCUs. M1 controllers also can be programmed using Matlab/Simulink or combination of hand coding and Simulink.

Can I use Simulink to create M1 VCU firmware?

Yes, MoTeC has an M1 Integration Tool that allows you to build M1 Firmware directly from Simulink or combination of Simulink and hand coding in M1 Build. Please contact evapplications@motec.com.au to receive more detailed information.

What are the prerequisites to use the M1 Integration Tool with Simulink?

The M1 Integration Tool requires:
● MATLAB® and Simulink® installation (support from version R2019a).
● Embedded Coder, Simulink® Coder and MATLAB® Coder.
● M1 Build, MoTeC's development software (version 1.4.1.0277 or up).
● M1 Tune, MoTeC's calibration software.
● M1 Development Licence (SL)
● M1 Simulink Activation
